 A Prime Minister who coined one of the most famous slogans, ' Jai Jawan, Jai  Kisan', 
  at a Delhi rally. The slogan was made to signify the importance of farmers and soldiers in nurturing and protecting the country.  In 1967,  director-actor  Manoj   Kumar translated the essence of the slogan into blockbuster film, Upkar.

Q.33.  How long did Shastriji serve as railway minister of  India and why did he resign from his post? 
Ans- Between 1951  to  1956.
               Shastri tendered his resignation two times. Once there was a major railway accident in Mahbubnagar, Andhra Pradesh, killing as many as 112 people.
                                           A few months later in November 1956, there was yet another railway accident in Ariyalur in Tamil Nadu. This tragedy resulted in 144 deaths.
                  Suffice it to say, that Shastriji was not personally responsible for the accident.
Excessive rains had caused the river Maruthaiyar to swell and reach the tracks, resulting in the derailing of the train.
