 Lord Irwin, the Viceroy of India, inaugurated New Delhi as the capital of India on February 13, 1931. This replaced Calcutta as the country's capital.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose raised the Indian Flag in Andaman, the first Indian

 territory freed from British Rule.
